Perth County Council, through the recommendation of it’s Public Works Director John McClelland, hired the local Stratford Engineering Firm NA Engineering Associates to handle the construction phase of the Courthouse Elevator Project.

The company, which had been the successful company to be awarded the contract for work for the pre-construction and design work, were recommended to be awarded the new phase of project without issuing a tender says McClelland due to their extensive knowledge and familiarity with the courthouse and having done the project designs.

He also added that the issue with offering it out as well were the fact that the process would take one and a half months to have possible bids returned and even more to bring the new company up to date on the project.

These issues were seen as sources of delay in the project.

The project, which will see an elevator added to the courthouse originally opened in 1887, has an estimated cost of over $1 million dollars.
