Over 200 international travelers coming into Ontario have refused to stay in a quarantine hotel.

The Public Health Agency says over 200 tickets have been issued since the program started in February. Fines are handed to those who return to Ontario but haven’t booked or are willing to stay in a hotel for their designated quarantine period.

The fines for refusing to go to a government approved hotel is $3000.

The requirement has those coming into Ontario from an international flight to quarantine at a hotel until their test returns negative, which they then can return home to finish their 14 day quarantine period.

Since launch, many travelers have complained the rates for the hotels were too expensive for their stay, one family saying they were charged $3458 per night until multiple complaints at which the hotel eventually lowered the charges.
