Former Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is stepping away from federal politics.

The Ontario MP first elected in 2012 says he isn’t seeking re-election and plans to resign this spring.

Perth-Wellington MP John Nater in a statement says Erin dedicated his life to public service, starting with 12 years in the Canadian Forces before dipping into politics.

Nater adds he values O’Toole as a friend both in and out of politics who he took in O’Toole’s advice and enjoyed his visits to the riding.

O’Toole took the leadership role for the Conservatives in 2020, beating out Peter MacKay but was eventually voted out as leader which has since been taken over by Pierre Poilievre.
