Optimist Club of Ellice Receives Community Grant

Grant will be used for accessibility upgrades for the Rostock Hall

The Optimist Club of Ellice was one of 91 other community groups across Canada to be the recipient 2020 Farm Credit Canada Agri-Spirit Fund Community Grant.

Bev Rock, Acting Secretary of the Optimist Club of Ellice said everyone was overjoyed to get the phone call that they were among one of the recipients.

“It was really exciting to get the phone call that we were one of the winning grant applications and we were very very pleased because we want to use the money towards barrier free access to the hall” said Rock

This comes at a perfect time as many fundraiser and community events have to pull the plug due to the pandemic. But as Club President, Johanne Groenestege says, recent fundraisers have seen great success.

“We recently did a smoked pork chop barbeque and that was really successful. We served over 1000 meals with the drive-thru protocol. We really do thank the community in supporting us with that” said Groenestege.

The Optimist Club will put this grant forward for more accessibility upgrades for the Rostock Hall such as barrier-free interior and exterior doors and a wheelchair ramp. The club purchased the hall in September of 2018 from the Township of Perth East.
