The pandemic has seen more and more people conduct business online.
According to the OPP, this has opened up many opportunities for scammers to take their money.
October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month and OPP Inspector Krista Miller says anyone with a phone, laptop or tablet is a potential victim.
“89% of Canadians have a smartphone and 71% of them use online banking. Con-artists are targeting those areas.” said Miller.
Miller adds they have received 81 calls for fraud over the last six months and in 34 of the cases, victims lost a total of $750,000.
