Ontario is spending $324 million to help tackle the waitlist of surgeries due to the pandemic.
The current backlog is also expecting to increase as the province continues to recover. The government is aiming to allow hospitals to operate at 115 percent capacity in the fall with a focus on high volume, non-urgent surgeries.
The investment will go towards extending operating hours, focusing on the more harder hit areas.
Non-COVID related care was scaled back during the pandemic as the province’s top doctor put a pause twice on non-urgent procedures.
