Ontario taxpayers will be getting an extra $200 in their pocket early next year.

Premier Doug Ford says the $200 tax free rebate will be given out to taxpayers with those with kids getting an extra $200 for each eligible child.

Ford says these cheques are going out due to the high costs of the federal carbon tax and interest rates.

This is expected to cost the government $3 billion.

Those eligible for the rebate must be at least 18 years old by the end of 2023, be a resident of Ontario and have filed their 2023 Income Tax and Benefit Return and not be bankrupt or incarcerated.

This has been pushed back by opposition parties with NDP Leader Marit Stiles saying a lot of people are struggling and a one time payment right before an election is not going to solve an affordability crisis.

Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner commented saying it doesn’t make sense that people such as Galen Weston will receive $200 when Ontarians can’t even find a place to live.
