The Provincial government announced a temporary vaccine passport today as a response to rising cases of Covid-19 due in part to the more transmissible delta variant.
The move was said by the Premier to be taken due to the fact that even with a rising rate of vaccination the case counts across Ontario continue to rise. The vaccination rate currently sits at 76 percent of residents who are fully vaccinated with 2 doses.
Premier Doug Ford says that he has worked with the other Provinces and Premiers to develop a universal passport on vaccination in light of one not announced federally.
Ford says he doesn’t want to see Ontario forced into another lockdown.
Vaccinations will be mandatory now for indoor settings such as restaurant, casinos, bars, gyms, meeting, events and sporting events.
By-Law officers will enforce the restriction and will not be applied to outdoor spaces except night clubs.
Medical exceptions will exist for those that cannot be vaccinated with a valid medical reason or those too young to be able to be vaccinated.
They will also not be required for essential retail.
The Vaccination Passports will come into effect as of September 22, 2021.
They will be downloadable as a PDF with a QR code onto smart phones and other devices and will be shown as well as your ID.
