Ambulances in Wellington County are being pulled away from the area to help respond to calls across Guelph due to offload delays seen by Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services at Guelph General Hospital.
Offload delays are seen when patients are unable to be transferred into the care of hospital staff in a timely manner.
This shift and hold up at the Guelph hospital has some of the county’s daytime ambulances having to leave rural areas and respond from a distance to cover calls in the city with crews have to come from over 30 minutes away.
Some solutions are being looked into in efforts to speed up response times in the city and keep rural ambulances where the are but specifics have not yet been provided.
