The Official First taping of the Maple Syrup season ceremony was held at Hoover’s Maple Syrup in Atwood this morning. Dignitaries from Perth-Wellington and beyond were on hand to launch the season of harvesting sap on it’s way to becoming maple syrup. MP and MPP for Perth-Wellington John Nater and Matthew Rae both took in the occasion with MPP Rae even assisting in taping the first tree.

“It was a great honour to tap the first tree officially for the ceremony today. It’s a testament to the hard word of our maple syrup farmers across Perth County, but also across Ontario with the good work they do and the great products they produce.”

MP Nater took time to speak of the excitement of the return of the In-Person Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

“It’s exciting. It’s a festival that’s been sorely missing for the past 3 years. It’s exciting it’s back in person. It’s great for local producers to be able to showcase their talent.”

On the topic of showcasing their talent, the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival announced the winner of “Producer of the Year” with Snyder Acres of Bresleau coming in on top. Runner up was Roth’s Maple Syrup in New Hamburg.

Graham Snyder and Cody Snyder were present to accept, with Graham speaking to the honour.

“We came in and thought if we came in the top 5 we’d be quite happy.  But to come home and win it is overwhelming.”
