The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is looking for support from farmers and agriculture supporters alike in taking action in helping prevent the loss of farms across the province.

According to the OFA and data from the Census of Agriculture, Ontario is losing 175 acres of farmland everyday to urban development.

Tim Halliday from the Perth County Federation of Agriculture says this doesn’t just affect urban areas, it hits home as well.

“Stratford recently tried to build a factory on 400 acres of farmland and Perth East is currently in the process of developing 80 acres south of Milverton with very little input.” said Halliday

Halliday adding its important to save farmland everywhere, especially in Perth County.

“The message needs to be sent to local politicians that farmland matters. Especially here in Perth County where we have some of the best farmland in Ontario.”

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is calling on those for support which can be done by visiting their website.
