Circling back from last week’s canceled meeting, North Perth council finally got into business regarding supporting stop arm cameras for school buses.

The notice of motion brought from Allan Rothwell makes the request for buses to have stop arm cameras.

Rothwell says he’s spent time talking with local school bus operators such as John Chapman who’s brought in such requests before.

Rothwell’s request for the cameras is to have hopes starting for the next school year.

“Require all school buses to have stop arm cameras installed and paid for by the province for the start of the 2023-24 school year and underwrite the costs for the implementations and ongoing annual cost for Administrative Monetary Penalties in small and rural municipalities” said Rothwell.

Support was seen across the council chambers with the resolution be shared with Premier Doug Ford, the Attorney General, Minister of Education, Matthew Rae, Provincial Opposition Parties, AMO and all municipalities in Ontario.
