A North Perth resident is out $6900 after being the victim of the gift card scam.
On June 27th at around 7:15pm, Perth County OPP received a report of fraud after a 67 year old said they had been the victim of a scam.
It was determined while the victim was on the internet they got a pop up on their screen saying they had been scammed and to contact a number to resolve the issue.
The scammer requested the victim to withdraw cash from the bank and to purchase apple gift cards and provide them with the numbers.
Police are urging residents to never give control of your computer and to be very skeptical if you receive a pop up message indicating there are issues with your accounts or computer.
