North Perth council learned more about the FoodCycler program who is being invited to join the program.
The Canadian company has a goal to reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfills turning waste into nutrient rich soil.
The program has been well adopted, including nearby such as Huron-Kinloss.
While some solutions such as green bins and backyard compost is already being done Maddy From with Food Cycle Science says there are still issues with these types of solutions.
“There are green bins which are common in big cites with high population density and the right infrastructure but in more rural or remote areas this can be operationally challenging. Many people in the community might do backyard composting and this is an ideal solution but it still has the issues of animals still getting into and its not a feasible solution for eveybody” said From.
Council was overwhelmingly supportive of the idea of adopting the FoodCycler program and have directed to staff to get a report to come back to council.
