The Municipality of North Perth says that after working with many community partners, it is pleased to launch an Affordable Housing Plan of Action. They say it’s in a continued local effort towards increasing the attainability and affordability of housing.
In the first stage of the Plan, launched today, housing consumers are encouraged to share their stories and concerns through North Perth’s online platform “Your Say North Perth”.
Among the considerations in the Plan is the acknowledgment that recent Provincial Legislation requires a Municipality to allow the creation of two residential units in one single-detached, semi-detached, and townhouse dwelling.
To determine the need and interest in these types of units, and to explore additional affordable housing options, the Plan of Action includes a 3-stage process:
Stage 1: Create & distribute consultation invitations that provide input using multiple channels (web, social media, hard copies at the Library, Municipal Office and from the Building Department) that will be shared with developers/builders.
Stage 2: Serving Notice of Intent – A Housing Summit, including public access to survey results and a consultation report for community discussion.
Stage 3: Execute a Housing Summit Meeting that aims to identify further options for action and collaboration. Local stakeholders will be invited to attend.
