After 44 years of service, North Perth Fire Chief Ed Smith is hanging up the hat as October 29th marks his final day.
Ed Smith was named as the first fire chief for the fire department.
Assistant Fire Chief Jason Benn from the Fire Department says the rest of the fire department wishes him nothing but the absolute best and many years ahead.
“We wish Fire Chief Edward Smith a long and prosperous and healthy retirement. As well as his family, making memories and enjoying life.” said Benn
Ed Smith began his career at 21 years old with the Elma Logan Fire Department.
In 2001 Elma, Wallace and Listowel joined together and Smith became the first full time fire chief of North Perth.
Smith is widely recognized and respected among his Ontario peers and by the Ontario Fire Marshall.
He was nominated in 2015 by his peers and awarded the Alf Stone Award for his outstanding work with the fire department and within the community.
