North Perth council this week got more information on attainable housing in the final draft of a housing community improvement plan.
A series of meetings were held on the Attainable Housing Community Improvement Plan for the public to provide their thoughts.
Staff is now working on finalizing the plan given the comments received from the public.
North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg says as a council they need to find a reliable source to define affordable housing, saying while the province is looking at such a matter, he isn’t holding on to that coming anytime soon.
“We’ve heard rumour the province will release something as councilor Rothwell has said but I’m not one inclined to hold my breath on this one but I do think we need find a definition of affordable that tries to bake in notions of equity as well.” said Kasenberg.
Council is expected to receive the final draft again in the summer for final approval.
