North Perth council has backed a letter sent by Welland Mayor Frank Campion calling on the provincial and federal government to take action for justice and the protection of children.
In a letter sent out, Campion says he is deeply shaken from a sexual assault of a three year old child back in August while saying the justice system is failing to protect the most vulnerable.
The letter calls on both governments to take action such as the parole eligibility for sexual offences against children be reflected on the gravity of the crimes and strengthen the National Sex Offender Registry.
Councilor Sarah Blazek, echoing comments by Campion that an issue such as this is not political.
“The protection of children transcends politics and geography, it is a shared duty that defines who we are as a nation and I would very much like North Perth to be a voice in the wave of leadership that as Campion says demands justice and refuses complacency” said Blazek.
Council was in full support of the letter, who will voice their support to local MP and MPP’s as well as the provincial and federal attorney generals.
