John Ford continues to be remembered in Mapleton with council approving to create an annual John Ford Kindness Award in his honour.

Ford passed away at the age of 64 in March 2024 who is fondly remembered as someone who always had time to chat with everyone and had the ability to remember your name even if you had only met him once.

The award will recognize a township resident who embodies John’s values and positively impacts the lives of those around them.

Mayor Gregg Davidson says he’s had the chance to chat with John’s family who widely approved of the criteria.

“I did have an email conversation with Bonnie Ford this week and gave her the criteria and she was quite happy to see that and said John would be happy to see that as well.” said Davidson.

This award could roll out as early as this year with a proposed deadline for nominations being April 30th and a potential award presentation ceremony on May 12th.
