Waterloo Region might be held back on going forward with the majority of the province in heading into stage 2 in early July due to rising cases of COVID-19.

Waterloo has been deemed as the biggest hot spot for new COVID-19 cases in Ontario. This has mostly been a result of the spreading Delta variant.

The majority of those in Waterloo with a confirmed case of the Delta variant have not been vaccinated, at a staggering 83.3%, 13.9% of Delta cases have received a vaccine but are not fully vaccinated.

Medical Officer of Health for Waterloo, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang says the main priority remains to vaccinate residents.
