The governments of Canada and Ontario announced the investment in partnership with Sanofi Pasteur LTD in a new flu vaccine-manufacturing plant in Toronto.

The federal government will invest $415 million, Ontario contributing $55 million. The investment will support Canada’s future pandemic preparedness.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Francois-Philippe Champagne says this investment will allow the country to be ready for whatever could come in the future.

“When the next pandemic hits. Whatever it might be. We will be prepared as a nation.” said Champagne

The facility will ensure drug product formulation, fill and finish and inspection of flu vaccines. Sanofi will invest over $455 million and create 1225 jobs in the country.

Sanofi will also invest $79 million per year for 8 years to fund Canadian research and development.
