The NDP is reviving a bill to lower the legal voting age in Canada to 16.

Leader Jagmeet Singh says while he knows the history of failure of the bill, he believes this private members bill sponsored by NDP MP Taylor Bachrach is unique.

Bill C-210 will be debated in the House of Commons which if passed would amend the wording of the Canada Elections Act to define a qualified elector as any Canadian citizen 16 years of age or older on election day.

A future elector would be considered anyone older than 14 and younger than 16.

This bill is the first since 2005 to make it to the debate stage since MP Mark Holland had proposed a similar policy.
