A number crunch of the new Mount Forest pool has council seconded guessing on the decision.

Talks have been going on for many years about replacing the Lion Roy Grant Pool with real ground gaining in the last year with a ballpark estimate for the replacement costing between $1.5-2 million.

However the latest number shows it be much more, around $5.3 million.

This was also made worse when the townships asset management plan completed in 2021 show 15 and 20 per cent of the townships infrastructure is poor condition.

Councilor Lisa Hern says they’re finding themselves between a rock and a hard place.

“If we go forward with it we’re going to fall behind in every other way or tax people up the ying yang. But if we don’t go forward I do agree, children need to learn how to swim and seniors need the recreation.” said Hern.

Given the long term look at costs across Wellington North, the conversation of a new pool is beginning to shift towards a wish vs what is a necessity for the township but councilors such as Sherry Burke and Penny Renken continue to support a new pool for the area.
