Longer hockey seasons, the growing demand for the sport and other concerns have caused some issues with securing ice time with Mount Forest Minor Hockey.
As part of the Recreation, Parks and Leisure Committee, a request to have the ice stay, similar to a rule already in effect for the Mount Forest Patriots which keeps the ice in place in a deep playoff run.
Given some recent changes, minor hockey has seen extensions in their season well into spring which at times has left some teams scrambling to find an arena who hasn’t yet removed the ice.
Kyle Ferguson, Vice President of the Mount Forest Minor Hockey Association says this request is simple enough and helps keep hockey local.
“We just want to be treated fairly and it’s no fun for our teams to go out and try and source ice anywhere or play championship games that aren’t in our beautiful facilities that we have before us.” said Ferguson.
The committee accepted the report from Ferguson and will continue talks in the future.
