Mount Forest is one step closer towards the replacement of the old Lion Roy Grant Pool which closed last summer due to its state.
A Toronto based architectural firm has been working with a schematic design and recently brought forward a price cost of the pool of $5.3 million.
While there is still many stages left to work out, the 5.3 million figure got some concern from councilors such as Steve McCabe regarding the fiscal responsibility and future needs down the road.
“Water towers are on the horizon and I’m not saying the pool isn’t important I think it is. If you were to ask any of our local residents what they would spend their money on they wouldn’t have the same answer but I suspect it might be on infrastructure that’s already existing or needs to be built.” said McCabe.
Councilors such as Penny Renken also agreed with McCabe but add a pool for the community is very important.
For the time, council approved in principle of the work plan.
There remains many steps which could still affect decisions before a full work plan goes ahead.
