Meta Ends News Availability to Canadians

It’ll be a lot harder to access news in Canada if you get your content from Facebook or Instagram.

Meta, which owns both platforms in response to the federal governments Bill C-18 has fired back by blocking news content for Canadians.

People in Canada will no longer be able to view or share news on either platform as well as no longer being able to see links or content for any news outlet pages or accounts.

A statement released in June by Meta said in order to comply with the Online News Act they would simply stop Canadians from accessing news on their sites.

The law forces tech giants such as Meta and Google to pay news outlets for posting their journalism on their platforms.

Content from The Ranch Newsroom will continue to be posted to Facebook. Those wanting to stay up to date with local news in the community are encouraged to follow The Ranch on Twitter where news content is shared and our website.
