Mental Health is the other epidemic of Covid 19

Closure of treatment centres compounding the problem

Mental health is something we all struggle with now and again in our lives. The prolonged isolation of this ongoing pandemic paired with the winter season is proving a dangerous if not fatal combination to those battling addition and mental health challenges. Paulie O’Byrne Founder of a not-for-profit entitled of I’m 1 in 5 explains.

“The ticket with mental health is we try to stay connected. So a world that says to be isolated puts a damper on a connection with people.”

“A lot of treatment centres closed down during the pandemic. We saw a lot of people dying from overdoses or dying from being on waiting lists to get into treatment centres. That is the sad reality of the epidemic that we are also in right now. Across the board.. not just in cities but also small towns too that we are dealing with.”
