An inspection at Mapleton’s water facilities has revealed items at the facility to be in very poor condition.

The overall cost to repair totals $1.8 million worth of repairs being recommended as soon as possible.

This was brought to attention at a recent Mapleton council meeting. While the structure of the facility is in good shape, issues inside reveal things such as corrosion on both pump houses.

Most of the corrosion is a result of the humid environment but also how chemicals are stored in the facility. Some chlorine tanks were also not airtight and could off-gas.

Despite some damage, the townships water is still safe to drink.
