For the first time in a while there is a race for Mayor in Mapleton.
In Mapleton residents vote in a Mayor, 4 councilors, a County Ward councilor for ward 2 as well as school trustees.
Gregg Davidson seeks re-election as Mayor while Amanda Reid looks to give residents an option this election cycle as she takes her bid for the seat as Mayor.
This article will feature both candidates, learning more about them, their time within the council chambers and conversations had during their door knocking around town.
Amanda Reid

Amanda serves as a councilor in Mapleton who is a wife and mother of two who grew up in Halton and moved to Mapleton once she had her kids and wanted her kids to grow up within a rural community.
Reid holds a business degree majoring in accounting and minor in marketing.
Reid says she is proud of the work council has done over the last few years she believes there needs to be leadership who can work with the people and stand for residents while also giving Mapleton the choice to vote for Mayor.
“There hasn’t been a race for Mayor in eight years, its about for me allowing people that opportunity, a choice in their leader and decision maker and making sure I am being transparent and fair and advocating for the entire community.”
Reid says there is plenty to be proud of in the last term, from water and wastewater funding to a future school coming to Mapleton.
While she has been door knocking, Reid noted she has heard a lot about growth and how to address it and to make sure Mapleton doesn’t lose what makes them special.
Yes, taxes have also been a concern Reid has heard saying its important she and council look at every angle to address tax concerns and be well thought out and well done to make sure it isn’t just residents fronting the bill.
Reid hopes she can be a booming voice beyond the municipal level as well.

Gregg Davidson
Gregg Davidson grew up in Cambridge who eventually worked as a police officer in the Halton Region until his wife and he purchased M&M Food Market in Listowel and in 2014 ran for county council, eventually becoming the Mayor of Mapleton in 2018.
From a county standpoint, Davidson takes great pride in all the safety measures they have done which includes dropping speed limits, adding roundabouts and safety zones around school zones.
Davidson adds on there is more things he has enjoyed to see in efforts to address coming growth.
Over his time door knocking, Davidson says residents do seem happy with what has been going on but growth is coming and there needs to be more to address an expected population boom in the next 25 years.
Davidson wants to make sure the growth is sustainable with the right pieces in place from redoing the recreation centre which recently got federal funding to tackle at the PMD arena who adds they need everything in the right place and additions addressed ahead of time.
Davidson can be reached from different avenues including by email, his website or directly by phone at 519-957-2605.
For both Davidson and Reid one thing at the end of the day is pretty clear, residents should use their right to vote between now and October 26th.
“Our forefathers fought for this right for everyone to go out and vote and to see a voter turnout like we’ve had the last few municipal elections at around 25 per cent that is not good. We have the right to vote so let’s get out and do that” said Davidson.
“As my grandfather always use to say to me when we talked about politics ‘if you don’t vote you don’t have a voice’ and the best way to make your voice heard is to vote on election day” said Reid.
