Mapleton Council to Revisit Increase of Plot Charges

Council says higher costs a result of a fall in care and maintenance fund

Like many other things, cemetery plots have higher costs.

Mapleton Council is being asked to rethink their proposal to increase plot charges at township owned cemeteries. This has been raised to council by Ken Thompson from Heritage Homes.

Thompson believes the 300 percent increase from 375 dollars to 1500 for cremation graves is unreasonable. Traditional burial graves are proposed to go up 173 percent from 825 to 2250. Thomas says that the current traditional burial rates are in line with Wellington North at 850, North Perth at 1150 and Minto at 900.

Council says this increase is due to a fall in the care and maintenance fund. Mapleton Council will revisit the proposal at their December 8th council meeting.
