Mail in ballots have been approved in Wellington North for the 2026 municipal election.
Approved by council in a meeting this month it came after talks around voter turnout in the 2022 election and the merits of having more than just one way of voting.
Mayor Andy Lennox made note of the 36 per cent voter turnout saying its nothing to scream about but adds the turnout rate could be higher and in the last selection he did hear complaints from residents.
“I know that I dealt with a number of complaints from people about the list during the campaign. It’s not what we’d like to see of course we’d like to see 100 per cent rates but it is better than the last provincial election which I understand was 25 per cent.” said Lennox
The next election is set for October 26th 2026.
