Monday kicked off Local Food Week across Ontario.

The highlight marks the local industry and hardworking individuals who grow, nurture and harvest the food which nourishes Ontarians.

The week runs until June 12th and celebrates fresh, healthy food which is grown, produced and processed in our own backyards.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has challenged everyone to take a moment during the week to reflect and celebrate the affordable and easy access to high quality local foods.

From field to work, more than 10% of the province’s labour force is employed in the agri-food sector.

The 2021 Census of Agriculture showed increases in farms reporting direct to consumer sales across many categories such as farm gate sales, U-Pick It, farmers markets and community supported agriculture.

The Census also showed a number of farms offering direct deliveries to consumers and municipalities having maps, tours and buy local campaigns.

OFA is encouraging everyone to take advantage of all the local food products available during the season and celebrate Local Food Week across the province.
