In May, shovels hit the ground at the Listowel Memorial Arena Park.

On Monday, the fencing around the site was removed and the park opened up for the public.

The project has been one many years in the making working closely with North Perth council and town staff with fundraising reaching great heights.

The park is complete with a space for kids, benches and the main piece, a memorial which honours the victims of the arena collapse in 1959.

Jerry Rozendal, Chair of the Memorial Arena Park 1959 Project says this park is just an early start of what is to come down the road.

“We still have a memorial donour board to be installed and we’re still accepting donations towards that board. The plan in the winter time is to ice the centrefield so that we can have a nice skating surface for people to enjoy.” said Rozendal.

An official dedication and grand opening of the park will be held on February 28th, the same date when the arena collapse happened.
