It’s been a busy year across North Perth with a variety of projects getting the green light and fundraising going off, including with the Listowel Memorial Park Arena project.
In early 2021, council approved a master plan for the park and a committee was formed which throughout 2022 looked for new members.
In August, Jerry Rozendal, Chairman of the Listowel Memorial Park Committee said the plan for the park no matter what would include a memory for those lost in the tragic arena collapse.
“In my opinion, an excellent memorial is planned for the area. The park itself is kind of keeping the concept of the old arena that was there. There is a centre ice marker, corner markers, there’s a memorial space, an arena board sculpture” said Rozendal.
In October, the committee got approval for fundraising efforts and recently opened up the option for online donations directly from the municipal website.
The fundraising goal has been set to $1.5 million.
