The local riding for Perth-Wellington has been held down by the Conservative party since 2004.
Current MP John Nater is looking to keep that streak going as he seeks re-election. The Conservative platform has taken the name Secure Our Future, to recover from the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.
Supporting local agriculture is also key for Nater who wants to make sure systems are in place to support the farmers.
“What we need to look into is make sure they have the tools in place so they can thrive. So it’s relooking at the Business Risk Management programs. Bringing Agri-Stability back up to the 85 per cent margin.” said Nater.
Among the issues raised by residents, affordable housing has been a key highlight which Nater says the Conservatives do have a plan for.
“Incentives to build one million new houses in Canada over the next couple of years. We’re gonna do a few other things like incentives for purpose built rental housing because even finding a rental in Listowel and Perth-Wellington has been exceptionally difficult.”
