As hearings continue regarding Hockey Canada’s recent string of sexual assault allegations its been discovered Hockey Canada has used money from its reserve fund to pay for nine settlements which has totaled $7.6 million since 1989.
The hearings include Perth-Wellington MP John Nater, who is the Shadow Minister for Canadian Heritage.
Nater says he believes its time for new leadership in Hockey Canada.
Scott Smith, the current Hockey Canada President says he doesn’t plan on stepping down but is prepared to accept the responsibility and make the required changes.
The call for Smith to step down was also echoed by Liberal and NDP members as part of the committee.
The organization says they will no longer use the National Equity Fund for sexual abuse claims.
As investigation and hearings are ongoing, there is still plans to continue the World Juniors in Edmonton next month.
