Jewish Group Demands Apology After MP’s Honour Man Who Fought for the Nazis

Several Jewish advocacy groups are demanding apologies and condemning the actions of members of Parliament who gave a standing ovation to man who fought for the Nazi’s during WWII.

MP’s honoured 98 year old Yaroslav Hunka who fought in the First Ukrainian Division during WWII who was invited by Speaker Anthony Rota.

The First Ukrainian Division was also known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division, a voluntary unit under the command of the Nazi’s.

The Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies issued a statement on Sunday saying an explanation must be provided as to how Hunka was able to enter the halls of Canadian Parliament.

“Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old immigrant from Ukraine, was introduced by Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons, as “a Ukrainian Canadian war veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians” and “a Ukrainian hero and a Canadian hero,” ignoring the horrific fact that Hunka served in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, a Nazi military unit whose crimes against humanity during the Holocaust are well-documented.”
