Canada’s annual inflation rate slowed to 5.9 per cent last month even though the price at the grocery stores continues to be impacting Canadians wallets.

Statistics Canada says inflation slowed from 6.3 per cent in December with the federal agency saying headline inflation continues to slow due to base year effects.

Despite slowing inflation, grocery store prices are still impacting heavily with the price tags up 11.4 per cent when compared to a year ago.

Meat, bakery and vegetables all rose faster on a year over year basis.
