Huron Perth Public Health offers an update on status of Covid-19

Business inspection blitz occurring first week of February

Huron Perth Public Health held a media conference today to update the status of the battle against Covid-19.

There has been another death of a resident at Caressant Care here in Listowel. This brings the total to date to 4.

Knollcrest Lodge, Livingstone Manor and Greenwood Court have seen their outbreak status end. This brings the number of active outbreaks in Long Term Care to 6.

Retirement home outbreaks sit at 2.

There are 148 total cases active in the Region.

HPPH also advised residents that the timelines for the second dose of vaccinations has been extended to 42 days.

The vaccination center in London will be closing for 2 weeks due to a shortage of vaccines.

Protection for those receiving the vaccine should not be changed by the delay.

They also provided a heads up to area businesses that they should prepare for a safety blitz of multi ministry inspection teams to verify they are following public health guidelines.

They will be out in Huron Perth between February 3rd to 7th.

This will be initially an education and warning situation but repeat offenders could eventually face the possibility of fine.

In terms of return to in-class education Huron Perth HPPH believes existing public health measures had been working prior to the stay-at-home order.

Screening processing and mask wearing regulations have been stepped up at schools currently allowed to reopen.

Public Health wants to see the community transmission rates down before they would support the reopening of in-class education.

There have been no target levels provided by the Province for them to allow the reopening of schools in the Region.
