Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Postpones Non-Urgent Surgeries

Move comes as Staff Absences Increase due to Them Experience Covid-19 Symptoms and Awaiting Test Results, Have Tested Positive or Have a High Risk Exposure.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance advised residents that in effort to preserve essential services all all of their Hospitals, they would be postponing non-urgent surgeries.

Andrew Williams, President & CEO of HPHA says that as of December 30th almost 80 staff are unavailable to work due to experiencing Covid-19 symptoms with test results pending, have tested positive or have a high risk exposure.

He adds that with many of the patient care units and supporting departments across their sites already strained with staffing, adjustments needed to be made.

He says they regret having to postpone these surgeries, however the uncertainty they are facing with the Omicron variant requires these added safety measures to be implemented.

Those impacted by the surgical postponements will be contacted directly by their surgeon’s office.
