As record high temperatures continue to be seen throughout the week, the Humane Society of Stratford-Perth has been responding to calls of animals in distress in hot cars.

The humane society says, even on mild days, cars parked in the shade with windows down, those vehicles can still reach deadly temperatures, especially for cats and dogs who have a limited ability to sweat.

Kathrin Delutis, Executive Director for the humane society says pet owners can be subject to fines and charges under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act and under local bylaws.

Residents are asked if they see a dog or other pet left inside a vehicle and in distress to contact your local animal services provider, humane society, provincial animal welfare services or police.
