HP Medical Officer says vaccine seems to reduce Covid-19 symptoms if caught

Dr. Klassen says body's response to Covid-19 lessened after being vaccinated

Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Dr. Miriam Klassen offered a bit of reassurance in terms of vaccines and their protection of the population. While new variants do prove to be evasive in terms of total protection with a Covid-19 vaccine she says preliminary data is showing the bodies ability to fight seems to be greatly increased by being vaccinated.

“Even if there is vaccine escape happening. It is where even after being vaccinated a person gets Covid-19 infection it may be vaccine attenuated. People don’t become as ill, don’t become hospitalized or die and are less likely to transmit. That would be a good outcome of the vaccine. If it made the illness from a severe illness shifting to a range that is more mild.”

She also offered some insight that while some regions are opening pre-registration to more residents than Huron Perth has. The rate at which actual people receive a vaccine is not occurring as quickly in those areas as it may seem with pre-registration. They are still restricted by thing such as supply.

Huron Perth as a Region still sits at the low end of the spectrum against other west regions. The cases per 100,000 of population is second lowest at 34.4 (Chatham Kent is the lowest at 31) Wellington Dufferin Guelph is sitting at 161.9 per 100,000 as an entire region.

Percent positivity has Huron Perth the lowest at 1.3%. ICU occupancy is sitting at 50%. This is second to Lambton Region at 43%. Accute care occupancy is second lowest again to Lambton at 73% with theirs sitting at 71%.
