A new licensed 49 space childcare facility is being proposed for Howick.
The township applied to the County of Huron for $2 million of infrastructure funding under the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care system to help make a licensed child care more affordable and accessible.
This proposed centre would be adjacent to the Howick Community Centre with staff planning for an opening capacity of 10 infant spaces, 15 toddler spaces and 24 preschool spaces with the chance to expand in the future based on community need.
Howick CAO and Clerk Caitlin Gillis says anyone with young children know there is a real childcare crisis and being able to offer 49 childcare spaces to the community is life changing for many local families.
