Late February and early March are a hallowed time in the maple syrup industry.

It is a time when the right combination of weather and nature taking it’s course sets the systems in motion to start allowing Canada’s sweet export to begin flowing.

Hoovers Maple Syrup in Atwood held their Official Tree Tapping Ceremony of the Season and a few dignitaries were present to take in the honours.

Perth-Wellington MP John Nater brought his son Bennett to take it in and says it’s all about creating a tourist destination as well.

“I think that’s something in Perth County and Perth-Wellington are really seeing more and more of; agri-tourism. Coming to places like this is more than just buying products but it’s the experience as well. Terry and Diane have a great place here that you really want to check out.”

The dignitaries, which also included MPP for Perth-Wellington Randy Pettipiece and North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg were then given the opportunity to tap a tree out front of Hoovers store on the property to kick off the season.

Hoovers Maple Syrup is located at 5896 Line 78 in Atwood.
