A considerable group of Canadian Chambers of Commerce, Agricultural Organizations and more have banded together in the fight to keep Enbridge Line 5 active.
The group which includes the Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan Quebec and Canadian Chambers of Commerce along with Municipalities and Unions in the possibly impacted areas have banded together to issue an Open Letter informing the public of the issue.
The letter informs that Line 5 is critical to Canada. It supplies half of the oil used by Ontario and Quebec. It connects Alberta and Saskatchewan producers with vital markets in Central Canada.
It’s critical for jobs, cost of living, the economy and thousands of products Canadians rely on every day.
The State of Michigan wants to shut down Line 5 which the open letter says would cut off the essential energy it delivers to Canada.
Line 5 it says feeds Central Canadian refineries with safe and affordable supplies of gasoline, diesel, propane, jet fuel, plastics and chemicals.
Enbridge has applied to build a tunnel to house the line deep under the Straits of Mackinac. While Line 5 has operated safe and reliably in the Straits for more than 65 years, this new tunnel will further protect the environment.
The letter then asks the public to contact their locally elected representative to get them to open a dialogue with the United States on keeping Line 5 open.
