Over 19,000 people from across Ontario joined together on January 29th to take part in an online protest to demand action from the Government to help long term care residents.

The event was hosted by the Ontario Health Coalition and was held over Zoom.

It had over 20 speakers including the Provincial leaders of the NDP and Green party. Topics included the Covid-19 pandemic and related issues facing long term care facilities.

Issues such as understaffing, testing backlogs, over crowded rooms and insufficient infection control provisions were all seen as problems the group thinks the Provincial needs to deal with.

The group says every hour 1 Long Term Care resident is dying in the Province as a result of Covid-19 and declining care levels at homes.

On January 13th the Province Announced North Wellington Health Care, which operates hospitals in Mount Forest and Palmerston, was taking over management of the Caressant Care Long Term Care portion of the Arthur Facility to help get the outbreak there under control.
