The Grey Bruce Health Unit is declaring today that the Region has reached a critical threshold of Covid-19 cases.

This after 70 new cases of the virus have been identified in the last 2 days and those in close contact numbering in the hundreds.

Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says the situation requires that Grey-Bruce respond to keep things from spiralling out of control.

Arra continues to say that everyone in Grey Bruce. needs to consider themselves a carrier for the next 48 hours until they reach all cases and their contacts.

They are asking the public to help immediately control the situation and maintain control over contact tracing. Currently those elements of the battle against Covid-19 are stretched to their limits.

The cases identified already are due to residents not following the lockdown including people visiting others outside of their home while symptomatic.

An order from the Medical Officer of Health will be issued to further reinforce the need for cases and close contacts to follow public health restrictions.

Public Health is redeploying staff from other programs, including vaccination and the help line, in order to support contract tracing and case management.

The vaccination clinic planned for Saturday has been cancelled. The remainder of the week’s clinics will still continue but next week’s are being considered in order to minimize the risk of people gathering and due to reassigned staff.
