Shortly thereafter, OPP responded to a fraud at another residence in Belwood. It was there reported an 91-year-old was also defrauded of $9,000 in another instance of the “Grand Parent Scam”.

One reported that the suspect who attended the residence was female, and the suspect attending at the other was male.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police want to remind everyone of the Grand Parent Scam. It targets seniors and attempts to convince them that their grandchild is either hurt or has been arrested, and that a bail or medical fee must be paid.

Always be cautious of phone calls, emails or text that are canvassing for money.

Check with family members and attempt to validate the claims being made by the scammer.
