With spring right around the corner, minor hockey is still keeping busy as the season slowly winds down but there is still plenty of action across the board, including an annual tournament set at the Steve Kerr and Elma Logan Rec Complex next weekend.

Once again the Gord Hymers U11 Tournament with Listowel Minor Hockey is set to take place March 10th-12th featuring a variety of minor hockey action packed going on for the weekend.

Tim Good, Director of Hockey Operations for Listowel Minor Hockey and who looks after the tournament says last year they saw 12 teams but are up to 16 this year and draws in quite the crowd from travelers.

“The tournament consists of different sizes and teams come from all over the place but it is the U11 age group.” said Good.

On top of local action, fundraising for minor hockey with a silent auction will run and what’s up for grabs is far from small. Eric Church Tickets, a Playstation 5, Toronto Blue Jay and Leafs tickets.

Good says the tournament adds a unique style from other tournaments seen around the area from goods for the players to a skills comp to showcase for attendees.

“We do a lot more than most tournaments, we give away every player a little gift and all winning and runner up teams get trophies and medals. We’ve got a skills competition at 3pm for Saturday afternoon. You don’t see that in many tournaments.”
