Bill S-227 is now in its last stage of reading in the House of Commons and its last part of legislative talks.

Perth-Wellington MP John Nater rose in the House of Commons on Monday to kick off the third reading to establish Food Day in Canada.

The hope is have the bill passed through and kick off this summer and officially mark August 5th as the first Food Day in Canada.

Nater says Food Day in Canada all began with the late Elora resident, Anita Stewart.

“What was originally a great event in support of Canadian Beef Farmers and promote locally grown food has now turned into an annual event that celebrates the rich heritage and proud traditions of our Canadian cuisine.” said Nater.

Bill S-227 still remains in its third reading but its first journey in the senate in 2021 has gone through its process without much against the Bill.
